Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into the Community Health Nurses Training College, applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements specified by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and the Ministry of Health. Requirements may vary by programme. Please review the requirements carefully before applying.

General Requirements

The following are the minimum entry requirements for all programmes:
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of admission.
  • Must possess a valid WASSCE or SSSCE certificate.
  • Must have credits (A1-C6 for WASSCE or A-D for SSSCE) in three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
  • Must have credits in three (3) elective subjects relevant to the programme of choice.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit for nursing training.
  • Must have no criminal record.
  • Successful candidates will be required to pass a medical examination.

Programme-Specific Requirements

Certificate in Community Health Nursing

Junior High School Certificate or equivalent with passes in core subjects.

Diploma in Community Health Nursing

Senior High School (SHS) Certificate with passes in English, Mathematics, and Science subjects. Minimum grade requirements as prescribed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

Mature Applicants

  • Applicants must be at least 25 years of age at the time of application.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of relevant working experience in a health-related field.
  • Must pass a selection examination and/or interview conducted by the college.
  • Must provide evidence of previous education and work experience.
  • Mature applicants may be required to undertake a preparatory course before admission.
Note on Elective Subjects

While the college accepts a range of elective subjects, preference is given to applicants with science-related electives (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Elective Mathematics). However, candidates from General Arts, Home Economics, and Agricultural Science backgrounds are also encouraged to apply. The specific elective subjects accepted may vary from year to year based on Ministry of Health guidelines.
