Our History

1960 - The Beginning

The school was established on first May 1960 to serve the Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions with a total student population of about 20. It was started by a Danish lady by name Briggitte Haughland as the first Principal. The entry requirement was Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC) with training duration of the course for 18 months in theory and practicals in the field. Students upon completion were awarded a certificate to practice Community Nursing.

Early Facilities

The school started with two classrooms, 2 dormitories, a library, demonstration room, kitchen, dining hall, and stores with two Benz buses. Activities of the school included home visits, antenatal clinics, family planning, child welfare services and others. Outreach services in various communities were held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

1997-1998 - DANIDA Support

In the middle of 1997-1998, DANIDA refurbished the school by constructing staff accommodation, one semi-detachable quarters and a principal's bungalow, expansion of library, kitchen, stores, and construction of an overhead and under water tank, a biological plant and rest room for students.

2001 - Semester System

In the year 2001, the semester system was introduced for sixteen (16) weeks with holiday practicum. The entry requirement was reviewed to Junior Secondary School (JSS) with 8 weeks district practicals. Later on, the training started with Senior High School (SHS) leavers with passes as entry requirement. As time went on, there was an increase in student's admission. The largest admission in the school was 74 leading to infrastructure challenges such as classroom so the school had to use the skills laboratory as class.

2005 - Expansion

In 2005, student's population increased to 140 leading to the construction of two new classroom blocks with Internal Generated Fund (IGF). The school has a demonstration clinic which was built by National AIDS Commission Program (NACP). The school acquired 33 acres of land for future development. The school is noted for high academic performance and discipline.
